General Travel Information

TRANSPORT
We use comfortable and reliable company owned Japanese Toyota SUV's, micro-buses and coaches to transport our guests. The cost of transport is already included in the daily tour cost. All our drivers are licensed by the Road surface transport authority( RSTA). Our vehicles are also certified and inspected by the RSTA frequently to comply with the  road worthiness  and safety standards.
The guests will have a vehicle, guide and driver at their disposal at all times.

TOUR GUIDES/TOUR ESCORTS/TREKKING GUIDES.
All tour groups will be accompanied throughout their stay in Bhutan by an english speaking guide in accordance to government regulations.Guides meet their groups arrival in Bhutan and remain with them until their departure.

Our guides are trained and licensed by the  Royal Government of Bhutan  and undergo periodic examinations to upgrade their knowledge and services. Our guides are all high school and university educated english speaking guides.Arrangements for other foreign language speaking guides can also be made  upon receipt of prior notification.

TOURIST SEASONS
A visit to Bhutan can be planned any time of the year but the best period is from  March  to December. The peak season, when most visitors come to Bhutan is during the spring and autumn. Spring is from April through June and autumn from September through November. There are many festivals during this post harvest season, and visitors come to take advantage of  both of the pleasant climate and the colorful festivals. However, Bhutan has limited tourism infrastructure and  we suggest  you to book in advance to avail confirmations for both air and land  on time.
ACCOMMODATION
There are comfortable hotels and lodges at all tourist destinations. Western Bhutan has better hotels while in central and eastern part of the country, accommodation establishments are simple and of a minimum facilities. Luxury hotels are  all concentrated in  Paro .  We also provide reservation facilities to all major luxury hotels in Bhutan.

Hotels vary in style and quality. All Government approved hotels are clean and well maintained with hot and cool water facilities, telephones and fax with international dialing. Bhutanese, Indian, Chinese and Continental cuisine are available in most of the hotels.

Hotels in Western ,Central Bhutan  & South Bhutan  ;Thimphu, Paro, Punakha ,wangduephodrang,Trongsa ,Bumthang  & Phuntsholing are well developed providing decent accommodation and cuisine. In the eastern region, the lodging may include basic elements. Even when you travel to remote areas  in eastern Bhutan  with us , you can be sure that your accommodation in lodges, guest houses, smaller hotels and tented camps will be of an approved standard.

We have carefully selected the accommodation units with the best of location, services and ambience. Bhutan Scenic Tours uses the best establishments available. Although the best units cannot be compared to international standards but still they offer the necessary facilities. Situated conveniently in the heart of city or around the spectacular landscape, and built in traditional design, the units are well maintained and certified by the Royal Government of Bhutan.

CURRENCY:
Bhutan’s unit of currency is the Ngultrum (Nu). The Ngultrum is pegged with the Indian Rupee (Rs). The exchange for USD $ 1 = Nu.40(As of July 2007)

ELECTRICITY:
220-240 Volts.

CLOTHING:
Cotton and light woolens in summer(May- Sept.) .Heavy woolens and jackets the rest of the year.During visit to monasteries and   institutions wearing of shorts,hats are strictly prohibited.
